Fighting Sioux End Wolves Season in Regional Semi-Finals
Grand Forks, N.D. – No. 2 North Dakota extended their winning streak to 34 games as they end Northern State’s (25-7) season with a 90-58 win in the semi-finals of the North Central Regional at the Betty Engelstad Sioux Center. Northern State’s 25 wins this season marks the most since 1999-00 when they finished with a 26-6 record.
North Dakota led wire to wire as they jumped out to an early 14-3 lead. After AliChmielewski (Sr., F, Foley, Minn.) hit a three pointer at 18:01 to make it a 6-3 ballgame the Wolves went cold. The Sioux would embark on a 20-6 run to lead 26-9 with eight minutes to go in the half.
The Sioux would continue to build their lead to as many as 25 with 2:42 left, before the Wolves finished the half on a 5-2 run to make it 47-25 at the half.
Northern State had nine first half turnovers while NCAA North Central Second Team player and the Wolves leading scorer, Noelle Hall (So., C, Altura, Minn.) scored only one first half point and was 0-for-1 form the field.
The Sioux continued to pour it on in the second half, leading by as many as 36 before the buzzer sounded with the Sioux winning by 32, 90-58.
Miranda Boepple (Jr., F, Dickinson, N.D.) led the Wolves with 12 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Ali Chmielewski and Carolin Becker (Jr., F, Beulah, N.D.) both added 11 for the Wolves. Hall finished the game with 8 points after fouling out for the second consecutive game, and second time in her career.
Northern State finished the game with 20 turnovers that led to 23 points for the Sioux.
North Dakota advances to the regional final on Monday night versus St. Cloud State.
