13 Players Score In NSU's 66-44 Win
CROOKSTON, Minn.- The Northern State women's basketball team had 13 players ink points in their 66-44 win over Minnesota, Crookston Saturday night. The Wolves improve to 19-7 overall and 12-5 in the NSIC while the Golden Eagles remain winless on the season at 0-25 overall and 0-16 in the league.
The Wolves had several large runs in the game, including a 26-7 spurt that lasted more than half of the first 20 minutes, leading to a 37-17 halftime lead. Northern pushed their lead to 27 points within the first three minutes of the second half, leading 46-19 following a Noelle Hall layup at the 17:19 mark. The Golden Eagles would cut the deficit to 16 points with 7:47 left to play, but the Wolves held UMC to just eight points in the remaining time, leading to the 66-44 win.
The game proved to be a good opportunity for the Wolves starters to rest up before the final push of the season, while NSU’s bench players took advantage of extra minutes. All suited players saw at least five minutes of court time and all but one player scored.
Northern shot 41.3 percent from the field (26-63) and was led by Hall with 12 points in just 22 minutes of play. Jessica Deinert came in second in scoring with nine points after she drained three triples. Jaclyn Arns led the squad with five of the Wolves’ 44 rebounds. NSU led in rebounds, 44-39.
Minnesota, Crookston was led in scoring by Katie Cheline with 15 points as the Golden Eagles shot 27.9 percent from the field (16-61). Doriane Davis added 10 points, while Brittany Milne led all players with eight boards.
The Wolves will wrap up regular season play next weekend with a game in Bismarck, ND, taking on the University of Mary at 6:00 pm on Saturday.
