Curt Fredrick Head Women's Basketball Coach
Curt Fredrickson
29th Season at NSU
in 2007-08

Curt Fredrickson's history of winning at Northern State University is virtually unsurpassed. With 632 wins, Fredrickson is the second winningest active NCAA II women's basketball coach. He is also one of just four DII women's coaches to surpass 600 wins. But what sets him apart is his program’s commitment to consistent excellence.

During Fredrickson’s tenure, the Wolves have played in five NAIA national tournaments, winning the NAIA II national title in 1991-92 and 1993-94, finishing second in 1992-93, claiming third in 1980-81, and finishing among the final eight teams in 1994-95. Fredrickson’s Wolves have also collected two district basketball championships and two regional crowns. In the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, the Wolves have had six first-place and six second-place finishes under Fredrickson. Fredrickson was named the NAIA II National Coach of the Year in 1992 and again in 1994. He has received additional coach of the year honors from the South Dakota Press Association, Royal Order of the Gyps, Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, Midwest Independent Region (2) and NAIA District 12 (3). In 1992 he was inducted into the NSU Athletic Hall of Fame.

Fredrickson 01-02 vs. MSUMOne of the major highlights during the Fredrickson years were NSU’s national championship runs in the early 1990’s. The 1991-92 team won the national championship and finished the season with a 30-4 record. The Wolves set out to defend their national crown in 1992-93 but were defeated in the national championship game. After dropping its season opener the next season, NSU reeled off 32 straight wins and made it to the national title game for the third season in a row. The Wolves claimed their second national championship in three years by coming out on top in a thriller against host team Western Oregon State University. The team’s 32-1 mark that season is a school record. In 1994-95, the Wolves jumped out to 13-0 mark and set new NAIA II and NCAA II records with 45 consecutive wins from Nov. 1993 to Jan. 1995.

The success hasn’t stopped since NSU joined the NCAA II ranks in 1995-96. The Wolves have made post-season appearances in four of their 11 years under the new affiliation, falling to eventual national champion North Dakota in the semifinals in 1996-97 and making another semifinal run in 1997-98 by knocking off perennial DII powerhouse North Dakota State.

Curt's family includes his wife, Vicki, daughter Lindsey and two boys, Cole and Blair.

Brent Pollari
Ass't Women’s Basketball
First Season

The 2007-08 season will mark the first year that Brent Pollari will serve as assistant women's basketball coach at NSU. Pollari is no stranger to Coach Fredrickson or Northern State University. He was a graduate assistant coach for the women's basketball team from 2004 to 2006, assisting with practices, game preparation, and on-court coaching for the NCAA Tournament-qualifying Wolves.

"We are very excited to be able to add Brent to our coaching staff," said Fredrickson of the new hire. "As a former graduate assistant, Brent is very familiar with our program and players. He has an outstanding feel for the game and will really help us in the area of recruiting."

Pollari returns to Northern after serving one year as an assistant coach at Texas A&M-Kingsville. While at TAMUK, Pollari directed the Javelina offense and assisted with the defense. He served as Interim Head Coach for a time and has experience in developing practice and game plans, fundraising, and recruiting. He was also a kinesiology instructor at TAMUK.

Pollari spent two years as head coach of the Corvallis High School girl's basketball program in Corvallis, Mont. and was a third assistant coach at Montana State University in 2001-02. He played two seasons of basketball for the University of Mary, where he received a degree in Physical Education in 2001.

Bobby Cope
Women’s Basketball Graduate Assistant
First Season

The 2007-2008 season will be the first season that Bobby Cope will serve as the graduate assistant for the Wolves women’s basketball team. Cope joins the Wolves from his hometown of Colstrip, Montana, where he has served as a football and basketball coach while teaching high school history for the previous two years.

Prior to his stint in Montana, Cope spent two years as a student assistant at Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D. While at Black Hills, Cope was in charge of strength and conditioning and academics for the Lady Jackets. Along with these responsibilities, Cope also assisted in player development, and scouting.

Cope graduated with honors from Black Hills in the winter of 2003 with his degree in Physical Education and is currently working towards his graduate degree at Northern State.
