Jan. 21, 1999

Northern State defeated Southwest State 27-24 in the Wolves' home opener at the Barnett Center Thursday night. That moves NSU's dual record against conference opponents to 2-0.

Both teams got a glimpse of the future in the dual, with their combined rosters consisting of just one senior and two juniors. For NSU, freshman Brent Babcock (North Branch, Minn.) stood out at the 184-pound class with a pin over SSU's Ken Sather at 4:50. Sophomore Dale Daugherty (Huron, S.D.) also picked up a win by decision.

The Wolves won three matches by forfeit and had to leave the 133- and 141-pound classes open due to injuries.
