Northern places second at NSIC Championships

Feb. 13, 1999

Northern State's wrestlers placed second at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Wrestling Championships Feb. 13 in Morris, Minn. Sophomore Dale Daugherty (Huron, S.D.) led the way, winning all three of his matches to walk away with the individual title at 197 pounds. En route to the individual title, Daugherty avenged a loss to Moorhead State's Dave Roberts in his final match. Roberts defeated Daugherty earlier in the year.

Three other Northern wrestlers earned all-conference honors,  which are awarded to first-and-second-place finishers. Finishing second were sophomore Cory Schwartz (Redfield, S.D.) at 149, freshman Nick Nihill (Buhl, Idaho) at 157 and freshman Brent Babcock (North Branch, Minn.) at 184.

Placing third for NSU was freshman Cory Anderson at 165 pounds and junior Jason Hulsoff at heavyweight.

Nationally-ranked Moorhead State finished first overall with 135.5 points, followed by Northern at 72.5. Southwest State and Minnesota-Morris tied for third with 50 points apiece.
