Anderson, Blanchard pins not enough against Mary

Northern State recorded four wins but fell 26-19 in a dual against University of Mary (Bismarck, N.D.) Thursday night in the Barnett Center.

Two of NSU's wins came by way of pin. Sophomore and reigning conference heavyweight champ Baron Blanchard (Kindred, N.D.) made short work of Mary's Mickey Mahlmeister, pinning the Mary heavyweight in 50 seconds.

In the 174 pound class the question wasn't so much if NSU senior Cory Anderson would overpower Mary's Dan Williams and record a pin, but when. Anderson's strength won over at 4 minutes, 16 seconds.

NSU's other two wins were recorded by senior 133 pounder Richard Goethals (Belle Fourche), who scrapped his way to a major decision over Mary's Biran Biel 13-4, and by sophomore 184-pounder Joey Krause (Aberdeen), who decisioned Mary's Ryan Baumgartner 5-3.

Northern's next action is at the Minnesota-Morris Open Dec. 1.

NSU's next home event is the Dakota Wesleyan/Huron University Triangular Dec. 5 at 6 p.m. in the Barnett Center.
