NORTHERN EARNS FIRST CONFERENCE WIN OVER SOUTHWEST STATE

MARSHALL, MINN. : The Northern State wrestling team escaped Southwest Minnesota on Wednesday night with a 21-21 win over Southwest State in its first NSIC dual of the season.

The Wolves won based on matches won after the final tally proved to be a deadlock.

Northern held a 21-17 lead going into the final match-up of the night at 157 lbs. where NSU's Brandon Braun held off Southwest's Jared Cooley preventing a technical fall that would have earned the Mustangs the winning point.

The Wolves move to 5-2 on the year in duals and are 1-0 in NSIC competition and Southwest State falls to 7-5 on the season. Both teams received votes in the latest NCAA II Top 20 rankings.
