WOLVES HOLD OFF ST. CLOUD STATE IN 22-14 BATTLE
ABERDEEN, S.D.: The Northern State wrestlers held off the nationally-ranked St. Cloud State Huskies in Wednesday’s dual at the Barnett Center. The Wolves began the night on the right foot capturing the first four match-ups of the evening including one by a major decision and another by way of fall to put Northern up 16 to -1 following an unsportsmanlike conduct call on St. Cloud State. The Huskies, however, would not go away as Dan Duch collected a win by injury default to get the Huskies on the board. SCSU then won two decisions before Northern’s Joey Krause and Cory Wellnitz put the dual out of reach and gave the Wolves a 22-11 lead heading into the final match. In the highly anticipated heavyweight match, No. 2 Dustin Darveaux defeated Northern’s No. 8 Baron Blanchard 2-1 with the winning point coming on a stalling call. “This is definitely a move in a positive direction,” said Northern State Head Coach Patrick Timm. “I don’t know the last time we’ve beaten St. Cloud State. It’s just a credit to the kids.” Northern State (3-0 in duals) will host No. 15 Augustana (S.D.) on Friday night at 8 p.m. followed by a Saturday night dual with No. 7 South Dakota State at 7 p.m. in the Barnett Center. 125
