AUCS Spring Concert Rescheduled

Released April 10, 2008

(ABERDEEN, SD) The Aberdeen University/Civic Symphony Orchestra has rescheduled its Spring Concert for Apr. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Johnson Fine Arts Center. This concert was originally scheduled to be presented on Apr. 6, but was canceled due to the severe winter storm which struck Aberdeen and the surrounding communities that day.

The Apr. 22 program will be the same as was originally planned, and will feature the winners of the 2008 NSU Concerto/Aria Competition and will include the music of Handel, Brahms, Creston, and Mozart. Dr. Robert Vodnoy, Director of Orchestra Activities/Assistant Professor of Strings at NSU will conduct the orchestra. The program is free and open to the public.

The instrumental winner of this year’s competition is Keiko Muto. Keiko is a music education major from Kannami City, Shizuoka, Japan. She has studied at NSU for five years and is the pupil of Dr. Terry Beckler. She will perform the first movement of Paul Creston’s Marimba Concerto.

The vocal winner of this year’s competition is Hatem Elgenedy, a baritone from Cairo, Egypt. He is a freshman music major and a student of Dr. Raouf Zaidan. He will sing the “Count’s Aria” from Mozart’s opera The Marriage of Figaro.

The orchestra will perform three movements from George Frideric Handel’s “Water Music” arranged by Hamilton Harty, and the finale of Brahms’ “Symphony No. 1.”

For information about this concert, please contact the Fine Arts Office at 626-2497.
