Description:
This project provides an opportunity to expand to service learning
beyond the actual physical construction of the site to the delivery of
services to the student population, as well as inclusion of the parents
in a volunteer program that provides a community educational experience
and directly involves them in the education of their children. The project
promotes the ideal that a strong community is one where every individual
commits time and energy to improving the quality of life for all members.
The inter generation of service learning into the curriculum provides an
ongoing mechanism for continued community service in conjunction with the
requirements of the School-to-Work Transition Act, as well as reinforcement
for the district character education program components that stress the
values of respect and responsibility.
