Description:
This program provides hands-on experience in the areas of Environment, Education, and Human Needs.  Students are given the opportunity to collaborate with the elderly through reading, letter writing, and storytelling.  Students also participate in projects that protect and preserve animal habitat.  Students grades 7 and 8 are participating in voter registration as they develop citizenship skills and understand voter registration as they develop citizenship skills and understand the voting procedure.

Program Name:
Union Tutorial Project

Description:
23 7th and 8th graders are enrolled in a tutorial class designed to help them learn by allowing them to teach.  The students spend one class period a day four days a week at lake Butler Elementary School where they serve as tutors.  The middle schools are each partnered with one or two LBES students to provide them with extra individual instruction time.  In the process if helping the first through fourth grades build skill in reading, writing and math, the tutors are also improving their own academic abilities.
