The Aberdeen University/Civic Orchestra (AUCS) is open to NSU students and community musicians who are interested in performing great orchestral music. Auditions are held at the beginning of each semester. String auditions are for seating purposes. Membership for wind/brass/percussion players is by audition if more players audition than are required by the repertoire. 

 

GOALS

• Explore the symphonic and chamber orchestra repertoire
• Develop ensemble skills, rhythmic accuracy, intonation, tone and flexibility
• Perform 2 public concerts and the Fall Musical

 

OBJECTIVES AND TOOLS

• Full rehearsals and sectionals on the semester’s repertoire
• Sight-reading

 

ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance at AUCS and Chamber Orchestra rehearsals is essential for the individual musician’s growth as well as for the good of the ensemble.  In addition, under the new credit guidelines for NSU, up to three semesters of ensemble credit can be counted toward the Arts & Humanities six credit requirement for graduation.  Students enrolled in MUEN 110/310 are allowed one free skip per semester for an unexcused absence.  After that, the letter grade will drop one letter grade for each unexcused absence.  Please contact me IN ADVANCE of a rehearsal to be excused.  Email is the preferred method of communication, but you may call me at my office if needed.  Generally, I will excuse students for a documented medical excuse, family emergency or educational conflict.
