A four-story residence hall for men and women, McArthur-Welsh can house 190 residents. The name honors Grace McArthur, an instructor of Music at Northern from 1928 to 1966, and Emeline Welsh, a professor of English from 1931 to 1966.
Affectionately dubbed "McWelsh," it is one of the closest halls to the classroom buildings and is handicapped accessible. There is a large, main lobby with a 55" flat-screen TV, a microwave oven, and a piano area on the first floor. The main lobby also boasts a pool table and vending machines. There is a large area with tables for studying, working on projects, or hanging out. Also on first floor is the hall office, game closet, and the free laundry room. There is a TV Lounge/Kitchen centrally located on the other three floors.
McWelsh rooms have individual desks with desk lights, shelves, and dressers on each side of the room. These rooms are also known for their spacious closets and full-length mirrors. Each room provides wired internet access, fee-for-service cable TV access, and is wired for a phone line (extra charges apply). In addition, McWelsh also has independent heating controls for each room. McWelsh is a designated No Smoking environment. Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the building.
