NSU Art Department Graduates Largest Senior Class on Record

(Aberdeen, S.D.) The 2009/2010 academic year marks the largest numbers in both graduation and enrollment for the NSU Art Department. The spring senior class has 15 graduates to add to the three that already graduated in December 2009.

There are many upcoming events to highlight their achievements including numerous senior art exhibits and portfolio reviews. The art department currently boasts over 110 students enrolled with specializations and degrees in fine art, advertising design, multimedia design and art education. The department has also welcomed two new faculty members, Nadya Preszler and Greg Blair, this academic year who have contributed to the success and energy of the growing Art Department.

The Senior Art Major Exhibition season kicks off with a group exhibition of the graduating advertising and multimedia design students. The title of their exhibit is “What You See Is What You Get” and runs from Mar. 29 – Apr. 9, 2010 in the student center gallery, which is located on the second floor of the NSU Student Center. The reception for the exhibit is Thu, Apr. 1 at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

The art and design work in this exhibition ranges from video and animation to brochures and logo design. The nine students participating in this group exhibition are Preston Elliot-Moore, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Jodie Huber, Hoven, Katie Kehrwald, Ipswich, Jolene Klaudt, Martin, Amanda Madden, Herreid, Adelaide Mounga Kerns, Utah, Jenna Trumm, Aberdeen, Cody Wells, Aberdeen, and Ben Wurgler, Sioux Falls.

Fine art and art education students have solo art exhibits as part of their senior exit process. This spring there are five students exhibiting their work including Amanda Druckemiller, Aberdeen, Allison Foster, Watertown, Naomi Even, Lusk, Wyo., Brenda Kohlman, Huron & Richmond, Ind., and Cherise Smith, Buffalo.
