NSU Appoints Dean of Business

(Aberdeen, S.D.) President James Smith is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Willard Broucek as the dean of the School of Business, effective June 22, 2010.
Dr. Sharon Paranto has been serving as the interim dean since the departure of Dean David Chown last year.
“Following a national search, we are pleased to have a candidate like Broucek come from inside our organization. He has previous experience as a Dean and is exceptionally well known in the field of International Business,” said Smith. “I know of his commitment to expanding our campus recognition both nationally and internationally. I look forward to the outcome of these efforts and, in keeping, will support Dr. Broucek in any manner possible.”
Broucek holds undergraduate degrees from the University of Illinois and Laurentian University, in Canada. He completed his master's at York University in Canada and his Ph.D at the University of Bradford, in the United Kingdom.
His background includes leadership roles in academia and the business sector including serving as Supervisor of the Business Program at the Abu Dhabi Men’s College in the United Arab Emirates, Dean of the School of Business at Huron University, and most recently as director of the Center of International Business and tenured associate professor in the School of Business since 2000.
During his time as director of the Center of International Business the program gained national accreditation and the participation rate tripled at the annual conference.
“On behalf of the NSU community I would like to join Dr. Smith in thanking Dr. Paranto for serving as the Interim Dean for this past year,” said Tom Hawley, provost and vice president for academic affairs. “Under her leadership, the School of Business’ list of academic and outreach accomplishments were impressive.”
Smith would also like to share his sincerest appreciation to the members of the search committee both from the Aberdeen and Northern community for their hard work and diligent service during this search.
