Swing the Night Away at NSU Jazz Swing Dance Party

(Aberdeen, S.D.) The four premiere jazz ensembles from Northern State University are joining together for the annual Jazz Swing Dance Party on Saturday, May 1, at the historic Ward Hotel Grand Ballroom. The event has become an Aberdeen and includes a night of swirling dancers and exciting NSU musicians playing like it was 1948!

Performing during the evening will be the NSU Vocal Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Timothy Woods, The NSU 1 O’Clock  Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Terry Beckler, the NSu UJazz Combo, under the direction of Fred Hemke and the NSU 2 O’Clock” Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Grant Manhart.

With four groups performing, the music will be played continuously throughout the evening beginning at 7:30 p.m. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $ 5 and are available Ken’s SuperFair Foods service counter, the NSU School of Fine Arts office and at the door the night of the event for $5. The School of Fine Arts office is located in Spafford Hall on the NSU campus.

“The night should be wonderful for Big Band music lovers of all ages, dancers, and anyone wishing to be a part of one of those wonderful Aberdeen/NSU collaborations,” said Manhart. “You will see the Ward Ballroom as it was meant to be, a warm, timeless and elegant room, lighted perfectly, filled with people listening, talking and watching the swirling music and dancers,” said Manhart.
