(Aberdeen, S.D.) The Northern State University Marching Wolves will travel to Waubay, S.D. for the “Lake Region Marching Band Festival” on Fri, Oct. 9, 2009. The Marching Wolves will be the feature band this year and will perform their full field show for all the students following the parade.
The Marching Wolves are under the direction of Boyd Perkins, assisted by Terry Beckler, Grant Manhart, Fred Hemke and Alan LaFave. Drum majors for the 2009 Marching Wolves include Jared Opp, Roscoe, S.D. Shyla Balo, White, S.D. and Kevin Nelson, Aberdeen, S.D.
“This year’s show is based on the music of Michael Jackson and is titled Thriller! The show will feature the NSU Drumline, Sousaphone Section, Northern Highlights Dance Team, and the NSU Flag Line,” said Perkins.
The Marching Wolves have enjoyed a long and distinguished tradition of excellence at the regional and national level appearing as the lone representative from South Dakota and one of only eight collegiate marching bands in the nation to appear in the January 2005 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington D.C. They were also selected to represent the state at the 65th anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor in Honolulu, Hawaii.
“The NSU Marching Wolves is open to any student regardless of major. Scholarships are available for students to play in the band and we welcome any new student into the organization,” added Perkins.
