Department of History and Geography

Both history and geography are synthesizing disciplines, using time (history) and space (geography) to understand the context to our world. Students with a major in History, a minor in History, or a minor in Geography graduate from Northern State University prepared to think independently and critically about our world. The Department of History and Geography’s award-winning, dedicated faculty inspire students in introductory classes to make connections across time and space, and the faculty work closely with students in upper level course to help them improve their writing and thinking skills. Students with degrees from the Department of History and Geography are known for their outstanding communication and research skills used in a wide range of careers.
