Intensive English Program's Mission
First, participate and succeed in any academic degree program
The mission of the Northern State University Intensive English Program (IEP) is to provide all students who do not speak English as their first language with a challenging English language program which prepares them to participate and succeed in any academic degree program at the undergraduate or graduate level in a U.S. university.
Second, familiarize students with American culture and cultural dynamics
The IEP is also designed to assist and familiarize students with American culture and the different cultural dynamics involved in both the classroom and out of the classroom.
IEP's EAGer Strategy 
Equip students with the academic and critical thinking skills they need for success in the classroom.
Assist students with the acculturation process to the United States both inside and outside of the classroom.
Give quality English language instruction to students of all nationalities and English levels for linguistic success in every area of life.
