University-Wide Assessment Office

Welcome to the University-Wide Assessment site.  The intended use is informational for current students and faculty/administration.  It is here where you can gain information on  Proficiency Examinations,  Senior Exit Exams, and other forms of university-wide assessment.  Please refer to the Testing section below and to the  navigation bar on the left-hand side for gaining access to further information.

Testing

These are the mandatory assessment testing requirements that are part of the overall graduation requirements here at NSU:

  • Effective Spring semester 1998, satisfactory performance on the Proficiency Exam is required for all students seeking a baccalaureate degree from the South Dakota Unified System of Higher Education. Effective Fall semester of 1999, satisfactory performance on the Proficiency Exam is required for all incoming students seeking an associate degree from the South Dakota Unified System of Higher Education. To be eligible to receive an associate or baccalaureate degree from a South Dakota Board of Regent's public university, students must fulfill the Proficiency Exam requirement as specified within this policy.   The following link gives you further information --

Sometimes the Proficiency Exam is referred to as the "CAAP exam" since the South Dakota Board of Regents University System has chosen the ACT CAAP set of  exams for Proficiency Exam testing.

  • Baccalaureate candidates must complete the appropriate exit exam in the major field. Test results will not affect graduation status but participation is required for graduation.  This exam is administered during a student's last semester on campus.
