 Northern can offer you a master of science degree in education with preparation for K-12 school or clinical mental health counseling certification.
 
Complete the program, and you'll possess the theoretical base and skills necessary to provide counseling services.

 

 
Career directions
 If you select School Counseling, you'll be prepared to counsel K-12 children in private, public, or parochial schools.
 
Select Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and you'll qualify to work in an agency with children, adults, families and groups; or in a career guidance employment setting. The program also will prepare you to take a state licensure or national certification exam. 

 

 

Develop your counseling style

At Northern, you'll have the freedom to develop your own counseling style. The program subscribes to the American Counseling Association (ACA) Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.

 

Your ability to recognize and accept a clients with diverse characteristics and backgrounds is essential at Northern. The ACA code of ethics and standards of practice outlines the rights of students and clients regarding openness and diversity of lifestyle and culture.
