VA education benefits are authorized to veterans and qualified dependents under specific chapters of Title 38, US Code. Benefits can be received from only 1 VA educational chapter at a time, even if there is eligibility under multiple chapters. The following information will be required in order to process your VA educational benefits through the NSU Veterans Affairs Office.
APPLICANTS UNDER CHAPTER 1606
-Army/Air National Guard/Reserve
• New applicants need to complete VA Form 22-1990
• If a transfer student, must complete VA Form 22-1995
• Submit copy of DD-214
• Submit copy of NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility)
• Provide copy of Kicker Contract if eligible
• Complete the
NSU Veterans Information Sheet
APPLICANTS UNDER CHAPTER 1607 (REAP)
-Army/Air National Guard/Reserve who were activated at least 90 days after
September 11, 2001.
• New applicants need to complete VA Form 22-1990
• If a transfer student, must complete VA Form 22-1995
• Submit copy of DD-214
• Submit copy of NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility)
• Provide copy of Kicker Contract if eligible
• Complete the
NSU Veterans Information Sheet
APPLICANTS UNDER CHAPTER 30
-Active Duty
• New applicants need to complete VA Form 22-1990
• If a transfer student, must complete VA Form 22-1995
• Submit a copy of DD-214
• Provide copy of Kicker Contract if eligible
• Complete the
NSU Veterans Information Sheet
APPLICANTS UNDER CHAPTER 31
-Vocational Rehabilitation
• Contact the Regional Office in Sioux Falls
• Provide NSU with 28-1905
APPLICANTS UNDER CHAPTER 33 – POST-9/11 GI BILL
-Individuals with at least 90 days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days.
• New applicants need to complete VA Form 22-1990
• If a transfer student, must complete VA Form 22-1995
• Submit copy of DD-214
• Submit copy of NOBE (Notice of Basic Eligibility) if needed
• Provide copy of Kicker Contract if eligible
