What is Orientation and Wolves Welcome Week?

The Wolf Pack at NSU knows that your transition to college life can be stressful and unnerving, That is why we are here to help!
It is very normal to have literally hundreds of questions about attending school at NSU. How do I get a workstudy job? Where is my Biology class? Where do I pay for my tuition and fees? How do I check my campus mailbox? All these questions and many more will be answered through attending Orientation!

Orientation is for everyone and it is important that everyone attends!

Whether you grew up in the Aberdeen area, if you are transferring to another school, coming back to school after a few years off, or if you recently graduated from high school, our program has things for everyone with all sorts of questions and situations. Wolves Welcome Week is orientation....

This is where we get crazy and break out of our shell! College is a new experience for many of the 500 plus new students that will be starting this fall at NSU, so we are all in the same boat.
The activities offered throughout the week will allow you to meet many new people from a variety of backgrounds.
Awesome prizes will be offered, so don't miss out on your big chance!

Family Encouraged to Attend

Family members and guest are welcome to attend the New Student Orientation Program and are encouraged to participate.
There will be time set aside following the Welcome Picnic on Saturday for families to say goodbye as new students head off to join the fun as new NSU students!
Discounted rates at local hotels and motels have been arranged to promote family attendance and allow some time to become acquainted with NSU and the Aberdeen community. Click here to obtain a listing of hotels.

Academic Ticket to Success

In addition to the opening session, and the various resources around campus, you will meet with the faculty who are members or your major academic department.
They will provide you with information essential to success in your area, such as studying, taking notes, meeting with your advisor, joining clubs related to your interests, and other tidbits of wisdom.

University Bookstore Hours
The University Bookstore will be open special hours on Saturday so you can beat the rush and get an early start on buying your books and other supplies.

One of the most exciting parts of starting college is moving into your new room and meeting your roommate. It is usually a good idea to contact your new roomie to coordinate things before you pack and move. Room assignments are mailed out mid-July. Please call 605-626-3007 for room or roommate information, should you have questions. Here is a list of items to consider when packing to move into the residence halls:

alarm clock
floor rug
radio/small CD player
key ring/ lanyard for keys
small television
hangers
microwave popcorn
(there is a microwave in most lobbies)
small pot and pan
(kitchenette in most lobbies)
telephone/answering machine (It is a good idea to have a dorm phone in addition to your cell.)
backpack or book bag
calendar
small refrigerator (one per room)
coffee, soup, macaroni and cheese, your favorite snacks
a few small tools (hammer, screwdriver, pliers, etc)
cups/plates/bowls/silverware
message board
Winter clothes, warm shoes

desk supplies
spending money
picture ID/driver's license/
social security card (You will need these for when applying for your workstudy job)
personal computer
envelopes and stamps
small clip-on lamp
fan
laundry basket and detergent (a large duffel bag works too)
comforter/sheets/pillow
towels
basket for shower supplies
shower shoes
(rubber slip-on sandals)
plastic or wire crates that can double as packing boxes and shelving
pictures/posters with double stick tape or adhesive clay
if you bring a bike, don't forget a lock and helmet
Plenty of storage containers and totes!

Be careful not to over-pack because space is also something you will need (especially if you share that space with someone else). You can always pick-up extras around campus if you need something else. You can also ship stuff if you want to bring seasonal items (such as cross country skis or heavier winter gear) later on in the semester.
