Decription:

You've made it! Welcome to Northern! Be sure to make the welcome tent your first stop on campus.  Here you will check-in for Orientation, get your hall move-in instructions, and enjoy some free music.  Don't forget to grab a September Slam calendar to hang in your room!  

At your residence halls, you will check-in, get your keys, and begin settling into your new room! Take this opportunity to pick up anything you forgot at home, and get to know your floor mates.

Decription:

For these mandatory, student-only meetings, the Resident Assistants (RAs) in your various residence halls will take a moment to get to know you and your comrades.  During this light, fun meeting your RAs will also go over some sweet social functions offered to you as well as everything you need to know for living on campus.                                  

 

                                  

 

                          4pm              Travel Agent Tells All    Missouri River Room

Parents Only: Be sure to attend this helpful session as Vice President of Student Affairs, Rhoda Smith, leads discussions about various topics of NSU life!  Topics will include, but are not limited to, dining services, residence life, insurance, credit, web access from home, and other services that NSU offers to assist your Wolves!                                   

                          5pm     Welcome Wolves from All Areas! Campus Green

Time for a pit-stop, some food, and fun!  All new students and their families are invited to the Welcome Picnic, an annual even co-sponsored with the NSU Admissions Office.       

                     7pm  Peni Mounga's Excellent Adventure Campus Green 

It's time to join the pack and send your families back home.  New wolves will be given the opportunity to partake in the Mounga Mixer, an upbeat, interactive session hosted by NSU Faculty member Peni Mounga.  This session will give you a chance to meet and mingle with fellow wolves!                                                                                             

                          8pm              Meet Your Tour Guides        Campus Green

Meet your Wolf Pack Leaders and your fellow Pack members.  Your Wolf Pack Leaders are here to welcome you and answer any early questions that you may have.  Let them be your guides!  This will be a fun, non-intimidating atmosphere led by students, for students!                                                                                                                    

                          9pm       Destination Recreation Part 1    Dacotah Hall

Come to the ISRC for some fun, prizes, and a chance to relax and enjoy your first night at Northern! There will be inflatable games, board games, and LOTS OF FREE FOOD AND PRIZES! Be sure to make this your destination for fun this evening!                              

 August 29: University Bookstore will be open 12:00pm - 4:00pm

Come grab some breakfast before beginning Day 2 of Northern Life.  Continental style breakfast is available with your meal plan or you can pay with cash.

Arrive with your small groups for a chance to hear various speakers touch on aspects important to all college students but specific to Northern State Wolves!                         

                          12pm            Lunch EnRoute                     Wolves Den        

Time for some good eatin'!  You must show your student ID card to receive lunch, which is part of your meal plan.  If you do not have a selected meal plan, the cost of lunch will be posted at the time of the meal.                                                                                    

                           1pm            Traveler Knowledge               JFAC Theatre     

Come on over for a chance to win big prizes and get an insider's look at life as an NSU student.  These hot topics will present students, in a light and humorous way, with facts and information that everyone needs to know but most are afraid to ask.  This will be one sizzlin' session so don't miss it!                                                                                    

                           2pm             Buckle Your Seatbelts!          JFAC Theatre     

Don't miss this session on success presented by NSU Men's Basketball Coach Don Meyer.  This speech is a classic and a campus favorite, be sure to attend!  You will not be sorry!                                                                                                                     

                           3pm          Tour Group Regroup              Campus Green  

Be sure to meet with your Wolf Pack Leaders and small groups at your designated meeting places to get informed about the upcoming events of the day.  From here, your group will form a game plan for the Amazing Race, competing against the other Orientation Packs.                                                                                                      

                           4pm              The Amazing Race              Campus Green  

After your Pack Time, you and your group will compete in the Amazing Race: The Orientation Olympics Edition, a time honored, ever popular tradition!                               

                           5pm     When Student Met Professor        TBD                  

Ever wonder what your new professors will really be like?   This relaxed, informal meal will be a great chance for you and your fellow wolves to meet, mingle, and dine with your new deans and professors.                                                                                                 

                           7pm     The Norman Magic Experience  JFAC Theatre

The Norman Magic Experience stars national touring magician, Norman Ng.  It is considered one of the most exciting magic shows touring today.  The show is a unique fusion of magic, comedy and audience participation.  The show features never before seen magic, laugh out loud comedic situations and the best part... it start you the audience!  Sponsored by the Campus Activities Board (CAB).                                                         

                           9pm   Residence Life Meeting Part 2       Residence Hall

Please report to your residence hall for round two of your mandatory hall meetings.  These meetings are designed to allow you to become familiar with rules and regulations of life in the residence halls, and also give you a chance to meet fellow students who will be your neighbors for the remainder of the year!

Following your meetings, the hall social will provide you with time to further get to know your neighbors and RAs, and have fun!                                                                         

Mon. Aug. 31    8am             Work-study Meeting                 JFAC 134         

This meeting is required if you plan on working on campus through Federal Work Study.  If you are not sure if you are Work Study eligible, it is a good idea to attend.

Jump start your morning with breakfast!  Remember to bring you student ID card to pay for your meal, you also have the option to pay with cash.

It is time to get down to business as the Orientation Group Carousel begins.  Here is where you will pay for tuition and fees, get your computer login information, find out how to get your mail, activate your student ID card and get your free NSU Student Planner.  Be sure to stick with you Orientation group so you don't miss this ESSENTIAL session!

After completing the Group Carousel, reward yourself with a delicious meal! You must show your student ID card to receive lunch, which is a part of your meal plan.  If you do not have a selected meal plan, the cost of lunch will be posted at the time of the meal.   

            1pm  Destination Recreation Part 2  Wylie Park/Lakewood Mall 

Come to Wylie Park, one of Aberdeen's favorite summer hangouts, for go-carts, mini-golf, bumper boats, sand volleyball, or a day at the beach.  All for FREE with your Northern ID!  If Wylie isn't your thing you also have the option to visit the Lakewood Mall and take in a movie, do some shopping, or just chill with an ice cream cone! Transportation will be provided to both locations from the Barnett Center parking lot.                                    

                            5pm               President's Picnic               Campus Green 

Join the NSU President, Jim Smith, and the rest of the NSU Campus community on the campus green for fun, fellowship, and FREE food!                                                        

                            8pm                 Ice Cream Social              Newman Center 

 Relax and un-wind after a busy day with an ice cream treat!  The ice cream social, sponsored by Campus Ministries, is a great way to cool off and hang out with your new NSU friends!
