About Registration: You are eligible to enroll in classes once your application file is complete and you've been accepted.
- Current students may register for classes the following semester during a pre-registration period.
- Transfer and re-entry students enroll by appointment in the Registrar's Office any time after the pre-registration period for enrolled students.
- New freshmen are invited to campus on selected spring and summer dates for academic advising and enrollment. New freshmen who are unable to come to the campus during scheduled pre-registration may enroll by appointment in the Registrar's Office any time after the scheduled dates for new student pre-registration. For more information, visit the Freshman Registration page.
Pre-registration consists of program planning with an advisor and enrolling in a schedule of classes. Registration is completed when you pay fees at the beginning of each term. Enrollment and fee payment deadlines are published in the class schedule for each semester or summer session. If you haven't completed registration and fee payment by the published deadline, your class schedule will be cancelled.
Important Information: The South Dakota Board of Regents approved reducing the number of credit hours needed to graduate from 128 to 120 at all the South Dakota Regental universities to align with a national trend. At the March 2012, the Board of Regents approved Northern’s proposed changes. Current Northern students will be able to choose to follow the new requirements or stay with the old ones. New students, beginning summer or fall 2012, will follow the new requirements. A few programs (Professional Accountancy, Medical Lab Science, and the BME programs) will be allowed to require more than 120 credits.
