The South Dakota Board of Regents approved reducing the number of credit hours needed to graduate from 128 to 120 at all the South Dakota Regental universities to align with a national trend. At the March 2012, the Board of Regents approved Northern’s proposed changes. Current Northern students will be able to choose to follow the new requirements or stay with the old ones. New students, beginning summer or fall 2012, will follow the new requirements. A few programs (Professional Accountancy, Medical Lab Science, and the BME programs) will be allowed to require more than 120 credits.
