University College is Northern's academic support system.
Services include academic advising, individual tutoring, and academic skills development.
Advisors at the Advising Center
help all first-year students as they register for their first semester, and they continue to serve students through their first academic year. Students who are undecided about their major will be advised through the Advising Center, regardless of class standing.
The Tutoring Center is comprised of the Math, Reading, and Writing centers, providing general and test-focused tutoring as well as services to help students prepare for and pass the Proficiency Exam.
The Supplemental Instruction Program
provides subject-specific academic support to students enrolled in certain courses. Support is provided through out-of-class sessions facilitated by other Northern students. Supplemental instruction helps students learn
study strategies and understand the subject, with the goal of academic success.
