Visiting Artist Program

€‹Nationally and internationally known artists each year stay at Northern during an extended residency.
During their stay of a week or more, each artist focuses equally on creating exciting art and working with Northern students through critiques, lectures, and collaboration with the community.
With visiting artists, Northern students:
  • Learn how to plan, organize and install an exhibition
  • Spend 30-minute one-on-one sessions with artists in which their work is discussed and critiqued
  • Interact with and observe a professional, working artist from outside Northern's faculty

Visiting artists provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Northern students and enrich the cultural community.

2016-17 Visiting Artists

Teri Rueb and Alan Price

NSU and its Johnson Fine Arts Center Gallery, working with media artists Teri Rueb and Alan Price, have engaged students, faculty and community members to create a collaborative mapping project that focuses on the land, water and people of Aberdeen and the Dakotas.

“Of Land and Dreams” is comprised of students, faculty and community members in Aberdeen and beyond who have come together over the course of nearly two years of dialogue with guest artists Teri Rueb and Alan Price. The project encourages people to submit their own images, video clips or audio recordings to create a locally driven portrait of the region. As a collaborative mapping, it can constantly change with each contribution. We encourage all to become part of this evolving image of place and people, land and dreams.
