The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit at Northern, with about one-third of Northern students majoring in programs through the college.
The CAS is divided into three departments:
• History, Sociology, Political Science and Geography
• Languages, Literature and Communication Studies
• Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and Mathematics
Learn on the job, across the globe
These departments administer dynamic internships, where students are placed in the community to gain firsthand experience in public and private agencies, schools, businesses and social service agencies. The CAS also organizes learning experiences across the U.S. and abroad.
While dedicated to classroom instruction, our faculty members work on a wide range of challenging research that often results in publication. See the Publications
page for their current and previously published academic research and areas of expertise.
