Apply for Admission
• Make sure you have completed all the requirements of the Admissions Process.
Complete the FAFSA
• The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (
FAFSA) may be filed beginning Jan. 1 of each year.
• Applications submitted before March 1 are given priority consideration for Federal Supplemental Grants, Federal Work-Study, and Federal Perkins Loans. List the NSU school code of 003466 on your FAFSA.
- Some FAFSA questions will determine your dependency status. If you're classified as dependent, you'll need to provide information from your parents.
- Take your time and read all instructions. Remember - making a mistake on the FAFSA can be costly!
- If you're eligible to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, it provides a quick and easy way to enter tax data.
• Submit your FAFSA, then print out and keep a copy of your submitted information for your records.
FAFSA Follow-up
• You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR), which is a copy of the information you submitted on the FAFSA. Check the SAR for accuracy and make any necessary corrections to your FAFSA.
• Your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) is calculated from the information you provided on the FAFSA and is listed on your SAR. The EFC is the amount your family is expected to contribute to your education for the upcoming year.
• If your application is selected for a process called Verification, you'll be notified by the Enrollment Service Center (ESC) in Vermillion, S.D. You'll need to complete the
Verification Form and submit required documentation to the ESC.
• In April, NSU may mail you an aid award letter detailing the amount and program source of federal financial aid for which you've qualified. Return your signed and fully completed aid award letter, along with any other required documents, to the Financial Aid Office.
