Highlights: Current Position

o   Reorganized from 4 departments to 6 departments to focus disciplines and increase administrative efficiency.
o Encouraged existing faculty to pursue terminal degrees consistent with the needs of the departments and the school.  Approximately half of the participants in this activity were minority faculty.
o Created a management team to broaden the decision structure in the School of Business.
o Created an International Business Institute at NSU directed by a non-faculty director to pursue entrepreneurial activities in international business.  This Institute has become preeminent in international business assistance for South Dakota companies.  The academic program has demonstrated excellence and has achieved an agreement with the American Graduate School of Management (Thunderbird) to matriculate NSU students into fast track program at Thunderbird.
o Established an annual international business conference for South Dakota.  At the second annual conference in October of 1995 there were 36 participants from 12 states and 4 participants from either Australia or the Netherlands.
o Initiated a move toward hiring terminal degree faculty in disciplines such as accounting, finance, marketing, and management.
o Initiated a move toward AACSB accreditation by joining the AACSB Pre-Candidacy program, This action required selling the benefits to the NSU administration and the School of Business faculty.  Established an AACSB study team to guide the self-study process.
o Initiated morale improvement activities such as recognition for excellence performance, refreshments at faculty/staff meetings, concern for faculty needs and including faculty/staff in the decision process, etc.
o Initiated the refocus of a department where program enrollment and class size had declined to unacceptable levels.  The marketable programs have been retained and some faculty were shifted to teach in areas where the School of Business had growth in student enrollment.  This was accomplished without the demise of the programs or the termination of faculty or staff.

o Consultant in support of Lab projects: economic modeling and analysis, statistical analysis and experimental design, micro/mini/mainframe computer applications.
o Software utilized: Copernicus, KEE, M1, Goldworks, 1st Class, SAS, BMDP, Wordstar 2000+, dBASE III+, Framework II, RBase V, and Lotus 123.
o Hardware utilized: Sun 3/xxx, Sun 4/xxx, IBM 43xx, CDC 176 and 205, Prime 750, DEC VAX 11/780, Compaq 386/20, Zenith 248, and IBM PC AT.
o Languages utilized: FORTRAN, BASIC, PROLOG, and Common LISP.

Research Economist
Univ. of Oklahoma

o Developed and implemented an engineering/economic model to select water and waste treatment technology.  Program presented as a one week seminar in several countries:  Panama, Guatemala, Peru, the Philippines, Indonesia, etc., under funding from the Agency for International Development.  Model recommended selection of appropriate technology and provided a cost effectiveness analysis for alternatives.
o In general  the setup and coordination meant a stay of two to three weeks in each country.  Approximately 12 countries were visited over a two year period.
