Dr. William Hoar

Professor of Art, Director of Northern Galleries
(Art History)

Dr. Bill Hoar has been a member of the NSU Art Department for some three decades. Besides teaching art history and art appreciation courses and serving as gallery director, he also teaches World Regional Geography, Asian Geography, and Early Chinese History in NSU's History and Geography Department. Dr. Hoar earned both his master's degree and doctoral degree at the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa. His undergraduate work was done at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Dr. Hoar has spent significant time overseas. Between 1966 and 1968 he was a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Ethiopia and spent over three years in Taiwan working for the Lutheran Church. His other travels have taken him to twenty other countries. Dr. Hoar's research has resulted in nearly fifty papers, publications, and photography exhibitions.
