After getting shelled by Wayne State (Neb.) 19-2 in the first game, Northern State and ace pitcher Jake Foslien (Benson, Minn.) came back strong in the nightcap but fell short in a 3-2 loss in Wayne Saturday.
Foslien pitched the entire second game and gave up just four hits and two earned runs for the Wolves. Down 1-3 in the seventh inning, NSU's offense put together a rally but came up short. The Wolves had seven hits on the day. Freshman outfielder Adam Chapman (Rapid City) had a strong game at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Chapman was 4-for-7 with an RBI and a run scored on the day. With the losses, Northern dropped to 3-19 on the season. Wayne improved to 22-4.
