NORTHERN DROPS TWO TO USD

Mar. 21, 2001

The Northern State University baseball team struggles continued early in the 2001 season, as they lost a doubleheader to their in-state rivals, the Coyotes of the University of South Dakota. The Wolves dropped the first game by a score of 1-7 and fell in the second game, 1-4. The games were played in Sioux City, Iowa due to the wet field in Vermillion, S.D.

In game one, the Wolves were only able to muster 2 hits against USD, with Jimmy May (Ortonville, Minn.) getting a hit and an RBI. Ryan Albrecht (Aberdeen, S.D.) pitched 5 1/3 innings and got the loss.

Senior Jake Foslien (Benson, Minn.) was on the mound in the second game for the Wolves and the senior went the distance, pitching 6 innings with only 2 earned runs. May again led the way at the plate for the Wolves, as he homered to score and knock in the lone run the Wolves were able to muster.

The Wolves next competition is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 in Dickonson, N.D. The first-pitch is slated for 1:00 pm and it is scheduled as a doubleheader.
