On Sunday, the Wolves made the trek to Sioux City, Iowa to take on South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota. The Wolves ended up losing both games on Sunday and are currently 3-13 on the season.
After playing four games on Friday and Saturday, the Wolves were set
to take on North Central Region and in-state rivals on Sunday when they
took on South Dakota State University and the University of South Dakota.
Against SDSU, Wolves junior Ryan Albrecht (Aberdeen, S.D.) pitched a whale
of a game, as he pitched a complete game in the 2-3 loss to the Jackrabbits.
The Jacks were able to muster runs in the bottom of the sixth and seventh
inning to tie the game at two and send it into extra innings. Then, in
the bottom of the eighth, SDSU was able to push one more run across to
win the game. Albrecht scattered 8 hits over the 7+ innings and only 2
of the runs were earned. The Wolves hitters were able to muster only 2
hits, as junior Eric Borge (Mellette, S.D.) went 1-4 with an RBI and freshman
Ethan Scoblic (Big Stone City, S.D.) went 1-3 and scored one of the Wolves
runs.
In the last game of the weekend, the Wolves took on the Coyotes of USD and were looking for a little revenge from the games ten days ago. It wasn't to be as the Wolves fell 3-6 to the Coyotes. Senior Jake Foslien (Benson, Minn.) pitched another strong game for the Wolves, throwing a complete game and striking out 3 while not allowing a single earned run. The Wolves struggled in the field, giving up 6 unearned runs on 4 errors. At the plate the sophomore Jimmy May (Ortonville, Minn.) led the Wolves going 2-4 with a run and an RBI. Eric Borge was also 2-4 and freshman Randy Wheatley (McCammon, Idaho) was 1-3 with a run and an RBI in the loss. The losses drop the Wolves record to 3-13 overall and the Wolves look to host the University of Minnesota-Duluth and Bemidji State University this weekend, weather permitting. The games are still set for Friday and Saturday, but will be pushed back if necessary to Saturday-Sunday or possibly Sunday-Monday if need be.
