WOLVES SWEEP TRINITY BIBLE

April 15, 2002

Awesome Fossum -- Fossum Field during NSU's doubleheader with TBC Monday.

Northern State earned 12-1 (4.5 innings) and 7-3 victories over Trinity Bible College (Ellendale, N.D.) Monday in a non-conference doubleheader at Fossum Field.

The Wolves (10-23 overall) pumped out 12 hits in the first game while sophomore pitcher Rob Picha (Eden Prairie, Minn.) tossed a one-hit complete game. The game was called in the top of the fifth inning due to the 10-run rule.

In the second game, junior hurler Owen Olson (Denver, Colo.) allowed two earned runs (three total) in the first inning but shut down TBC after that, scattering six hits in the complete game victory.

The second game also featured senior pitchers Ryan Albrecht (Aberdeen) and Andrew Lyke (Lakeville, Minn.) getting to test their wares in the batter's box and in the field. With extremely limited collegiate experience in either position the two fared very well. Albrecht was smooth at second base, recording two assisted putouts and a putout. Lyke, who played right field, reached base and showed his baserunning skills by stealing third in a flash of speed and a cloud of dust after his power slide.

Northern's other senior, Eric Borge (Mellette) also fared well on the day, going 5-for-7 including a home run, four runs scored and three RBI in addition to a solid showing in his usual spot at shortstop.

NSU freshman first baseman Wesley Fisbeck (Loveland, Colo.), also went 5-for-7 and hit a homer. Fisbeck ended with four RBI and three runs scored.

Northern will resume conference play Wednesday at Southwest State.
