WOLVES
OVERWHELMED BY SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
April

Borge
with a base knock -- Senior Eric Borge
delivers a base hit against SDSU during the first inning
of the first game Wednesday. |
With winds
gusting to 47 mph out of the Northwest and straight out of
Fossum Field, South Dakota State and Northern State combined
for 13 home runs Wednesday in a non-conference doubleheader.
Unfortunately,
12 of the dingers came from Jacks' bats, as SDSU rolled up
25-8 and 24-0 victories over the Wolves.
Northern
came out of the gates strong, leading 7-5 after the second
inning of the first game. But with the score tied at 7-7 in
the top of the fourth, the flood gates opened and SDSU racked
up 16 runs in the frame. On the other side, Northern's bats
went dead and mustered just one run the rest of the day.
Senior
pitchers Andrew Lyke (Lakeville, Minn.) and Ryan Albrecht
(Aberdeen) took the losses on the mound for NSU. Freshman
first baseman Wesley Fisbeck (Loveland, Colo.) led NSU at
the plate by going 4-of-7 with two RBI and one run scored
on the day. SDSU improved to 19-15 with the wins.
Northern
(11-27) will return to the conference schedule this weekend,
doing double-dip doubleheaders with Concordia St. Paul Saturday
and Sunday. First pitch Saturday is set for 1:30 p.m. The
Sunday doubleheader starts at noon.
