Wolves Split With NSIC’s Top Team – Southwest Minnesota State

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Wolves earned a split with Soutwest Minnesota State on day two of their four game series. The Wolves took game one 10-5 and lost game two by a score of 5-4.

The Wolves used ten hits, three from lead off name Deacon Burns, to score ten runs on their way to a win in game one. Justin Dowens (1-3) picked up his first win of the season as he went seven innings, giving up five runs on six hits, striking out three and walking only one of the 31 batters he faced.

Game One Stats

The Wolves used a late rally in game two but fell just shorty, losing 5-4 in the seriers finale. The Wolves out-hit the Mustangs 9-6 but SMSU scored two runs off one hit in the bottom of the first inning to take an early lead.

The Wolves tied the game in the top of the fifth inning when they scored two runs on three hits. The Mustangs countered with three runs of their own in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 5-2 lead.

The Wolves battled back in the top of sixth inning, scoring another pair of runs to cut the lead to one, but that was as close as they would get as the could not rally in the top of the seventh.

The Wolves are now 9-17 overall and 4-8 in the NSIC. Southwest Minnesota State is 22-9 and 10-2 in the NSIC.
