ABERDEEN, S.D. -Northern State split with Winona State on day two of their weekend series, 17-8 and 13-20. The Wolves looked like they had the sweep early in game two, but the Warriors battled back from three four runs leads against a depleted Wolves pitching staff to pick up the 20-13 win.
Northern State took game one by the score of 17-8. Joel Backous went two for three on the day with a pair of homers, knocking in four RBIs. Adam Kampsen added his third home run of the weekend when he blasted a three run dinger to left. Jeff Demarco also added a homer and three RBIs in a four for five outing in the game.
Eight of the nine batters in the Wolves line had a hit in the game and all nine crossed the plate.
Matt Reich picked up his third win of the season as he went five innings giving up seven runs on eight hits. Joe Dinger came in the final two innings giving up only hit to the nine batters he faced.
In game two the Wolves had an early lead of four runs in the first, four in the second and five in the third that the Warriors matched each of the first four innings. After scoring 13 runs in the first inning the Wolves were held scoreless the last four inning.
Jarod Olson went 2 1/3 innings giving up 11 runs on 11 hits. Joe Dinger came in relief again and went 3 2/3 innings giving up nine runs on 11 hits.
Joel Backous added another homer in game two along with four RBIs as he went three for four.
The Wolves take on Fergus Falls Community College on Monday, March 28 th at 2:00 p.m. at Fossum Field in Aberdeen in double-header action. They host SW Minnesota State on Saturday and Sunday of next weekend.
