Aberdeen, S.D. -Northern State (4-18, 0-2) dropped a pair of games to Winona State (16-9, 7-1) by the scores of 7-3 and 9-3 at Fossum Field. The Wolves were plagued by errors in game one and fell behind early in game two.
Northern State fell in game one 7-3 after the Warriors exploded for five runs in the top of the second inning. The Wolves scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and a single run in the fourth while the Warriors had a run in the top of the fourth and seventh.
The Wolves committed five errors in the game that cost them two runs. Justin Downes (0-2) went four innings for the Wolves giving up six runs (four earned) on six hits. He struck out two and walked three of the 23 batters he faced. Andrew Corre went the final three innings for the Wolves as he game up one earned run on four hits while striking out two.
Tom Keiser was 1-for-3 in the game with a solo home run, his second of the season.
In game two the Wolves fell 9-3 after allowing eight runs over the first four innings. The Warriors scored two in the first and second, one in the third and three in the fourth. Mike Paulson (1-3) went the first four innings giving up six earned runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking four. Andrew Corre finished up in game two again as he went three giving up one earned run on two hits while striking out three.
Christian Tavzrez and Paul Gerrish both had two hits a piece with Tavzrez knocking in two as well.
The Wolves host Winona State again tomorrow with the doubleheader starting at noon at Fossum Field.
