WAYNE , Neb. – The Wildcats of Wayne State College (18-9, 8-2 NSIC) hosted the Northern State (4-22, 0-10 NSIC) baseball team in a doubleheader Friday afternoon. The Wolves were shutout in game one of the twinbill and gave up a 10-0 decision. They responded with an improved game two, out-hitting the Wildcats 8-6 but only scored one run. WSC took a 10-3 win to earn the sweep.

Adam Kampsen took away a no-hitter from the Wildcats with a leadoff single in the seventh inning. Wayne had four hits and five runs in the first inning and finished the game with nine hits on their way to the 10-0 win. NSU’s Matt Geissler pitched a complete game for the Wolves and struck out five batters while walking just two.

Wayne opened up game two with a two-run knock in the first inning and went on to score three runs in each of the third and fourth innings to take an 8-0 lead. Justin Downes led off the NSU fifth with a triple to right field and was scored with a Jamie Paul grounder. The Wolves tacked on one run in the each of the sixth and seventh innings with RBI going to Adam Kampsen and Tyler Fries before Wayne State took the 10-3 win.

The Wolves out-hit the Wildcats 8-6 as Kampsen went 3-for-4 and Downes went 2-for-2. The Wolves had four errors in the game which led to five unearned runs. Brock Pashen started from the bump and took the loss after throwing for 2.2 innings.
