BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Northern State Wolves (7-25, 3-13 NSIC) got a split in Bemidji, Minn. today as they defeated the Bemidji State Beavers (4-26, 2-10 NSIC) in the first game 4-3 in a dramatic come from behind victory, which extended their win streak to three games. Then in the second game the Beavers were able to edge out the Wolves by a score of 7-5 to end the win streak for the Wolves.
Game 1
In game one the Beavers jumped out to an early 3-0 lead going into the top of the fourth inning, but that would be all the runs the Beavers would get. The Wolves were able to chip away at the lead scoring a run in the fourth and a run in the sixth to make it 3-2 going into the seventh inning. In the top of the seventh the Wolves were able to get three singles and a couple of walks to score two runs to go ahead 4-3. Adam Kampsen came in the seventh and slammed the door to get the save.
In the game the Wolves were led by Adam Kampsen as he went 2-for-3 with a home run. The wolves also got two hits from Tom Keiser as he went 2-for-4 in the victory. The Beavers got five hits from five different players. Bohannan scored twice for Bemidji State and went 1-for-4 in the game.
Matt Geissler pitched a great game for the Wolves to get his first victory on the season. Geissler went 6.0 innings giving up 5 hits, 3 earned runs, and striking out 7. Giessler improved his record to 1-2 on the year. Langlie also pitched a good game for the Beavers as he went 6.0 innings giving up 5 hits and 2 earned runs in the no decision.
Game 2
The second game started much like the first game in that the Beavers would score three early runs to go up 4-0 going into the top of the fourth inning. The Wolves would come back scoring five unanswered runs to take the lead 5-4 going into the bottom of the fifth inning. The Beavers were able to score three runs in the fifth to take the lead 7-5. Bemidji States Schwagel was able to keep the Wolves off the board for the rest of the game to get the Beavers the split.
In the game the Wolves were led by Mitch Locke as he went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Seven other Wolves got a hit for the Wolves but it was not enough. The Beavers were led by the Bohannon brothers as the went a combined 4-for-7 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI's.
Tyler Bauman would get the loss for the Wolves as he went 3.0 innings giving up 2 hits and 1 earned run. With the loss Bauman falls to 0-4 on the season. Bemidji States Schwagel got the win as he went 3.0 innings giving up 4 hits, 1 run, while striking out 5 batters.
The Wolves and the Beavers will be in action again on April 15th in Bemidji, Minn. Game time is set for 12:00 and 2:00 pm.
