ABERDEEN, S.D. - Matt Geissler had a no-hitter going after five innings of work against Southwest Minnesota State in game one of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon, but the Mustangs rallied for the 9-5 win. They jumped ahead of the Wolves in game two and swept the series with a 4-2 win. The Wolves fall to 8-28 and 4-16 in the NSIC while SMSU goes to 17-11, 8-6 NSIC.

Game 1
Geissler (Elk River, MN) had three strikeouts and allowed just one Mustang baserunner through five innings of play. The Wolves got their bats going in the fourth inning to drive in five runs and were up 5-0 before SMSU mounted a comeback in the sixth. They strung together five straight one-out hits and went on to score seven runs before the inning was out, taking back the lead for good.

Payton McCleary (Calgary, Alberta) drove in two of NSU's runs with a double to right center. Also adding RBI in the game were Mitch Locke (Groton, SD) and Carlos Camacho (Vega Baja, PR). The Wolves had five hits, but the Mustangs topped them with nine, six of which came in the sixth inning. Lex Reinke and Jake Munsch each had two RBI for SMSU. Geissler was credited with three strikeouts and three earned runs, while Adam Kampsen (Paynesville, MN) pitched 1.1 innings of relief, giving up two earned runs.

Game 2
Southwest Minnesota State walked away with the season sweep of the Wolves by taking game two with a score of 4-2. All four of SMSU's runs came in the second inning as the team batted around the order. They started things off with a walk and a hit batter before starting to knock the ball around. All four runs were earned. From the bump, NSU's Tyler Oliver (Seward, NE) kept the Mustangs scoreless for the remainder of the game, but Northern could only come up with two runs of support. Justin Downes (Atwater, MN) knocked a double into left center field to drive in Andrew Lunsetter (Wahpeton, ND) and McCleary in the third inning. The Wolves would go hitless for the rest of the game.

All four of NSU's hits in game two came from separate players, McCleary, Tales, Downes, and Lunsetter. Oliver struck out one batter and gave up just six hits in the game before notching the loss. The Wolves were fanned just four times in the game, three of which were tallied by starter Andrew Kinney.

The Wolves will continue play at Fossum Field on Friday with a doubleheader against Dickinson State. The first pitch will be thrown at 3:00 pm.
