ABERDEEN, S.D.- The Northern State University Wolves (8-32) lost a double header to the Vikings of Valley City State (21-7) today in Aberdeen, S.D. In the first game the Wolves lost a 2-1 led going into the sixth inning and eventually lost the game 5-3. In the second game of the double dip the Wolves gave up 17 hits in the game and 6 runs in the top of the seventh in the 4-13 decision.

Game 1
In game one Northern State had a 2-1 lead going into the top of the sixth inning. But the Vikings would score 2 runs in the both the sixth and seventh inning to take the 5-3 victory. The big blow in game one came off the bat of Valley City's Chauncey Calhoun as he hit a two run home run in the top of the sixth inning to give the Vikings the lead for good.

The Wolves and the Vikings each belted seven hits in the game. In the game the Wolves left 12 runners on base to the Vikings 5. Northern State was led by Mitch Locke as he went 2-for-3 with a runs scored. Valley City State was led by Chauncey Calhoun as he went 2-for-3 with a run scored and 4 RBI in the game. Matt Huonder also had a good game at the plate as he went 2-for-3 with a run scored for the Vikings.

Justin Downes pitched all seven innings for the Wolves picking up the loss. Downes gave up 7 hits, 5 earned runs, while striking out one Viking. With the loss Downes falls to 4-5 on the year. Steve Franklin got the win for Valley City as he went 6 innings giving up 6 hits and striking out 4 batters. Nathan Erbstoesser got the save.

Game 2
In game two the Wolves had a tough time getting anything going as they stranded 11 runners to the Vikings 9. Northern State only had 8 hits too Valley City State's 17. The game was 7-4 going into the the top of the seventh, when the Vikings would score 6 runs to take the 13-4 win.

Offensively the Wolves were led by Matt Tales as he went 2-for-4 and Andy Berkler as he went 1-for-2 with a run scored. The Vikings were led by Scott Dusessoy, Jeremy Wiebe, Jayson Miller, and Matt Huonder as they had three hits apiece. They also scored a combined 8 runs and batted in 5 runs.

The losing pitcher for Northern State was Tyler Fries as he fell to 1-3 on the year. Fries pitched 4 innings giving up 6 hits, 5 earned runs, while striking out 4. While Wisnewski go the win for the Vikings as he went 4 innings giving up 4 hits and 1 earned run.

Northern State will be in action tomorrow April 25th as Minnesota, Crookston comes to town for a conference double header, which is set to start at 2:00 pm at Fossum Field.
