ABERDEEN, S.D.- Northern State took control of both games today against cross town rival Presentation College as the Wolves took game one 15-9 and game two 8-0. The Wolves out hit the Saints 28 to 19 in the two game set improving their record to 12-36 on the year with a four game set left against the University of Mary in Bismarck, ND on May 5th and May 6th. The Saints fall to 17-14 on the year.
In game one the Wolves took command early as they scored 13 runs in the first 5 innings of play. Adam Kampsen hit his fifth home run on the season in the second inning. Kampsen went 3-for-6 in the game with 5 RBI’s and 3 runs scored. Aaron Kappes also had a great game as he went 4-for-4 with 1 RBI and 4 runs scored. Matt Tales went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI and 1 run scored. Matt Monson led the Saints as he went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and 1 run scored.
Justin Downes improved his record to 5-6 on the year as he went 4 innings giving up 5 hits, 0 earned runs, and struck out 2. Jordan Kline got the loss for the Saints as he went 3 innings giving up 9 hits and 6 earned runs.
In game two the Wolves jumped on the Saints early again as they scored 4 runs in the first two innings. That would be all the Wolves would need as they would cruise to an 8-0 victory. The Wolves were led by Aaron Kappes as he went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI. Justin Downes went 2-for-3 with a runs scored and an RBI.
Leading the way for the Saints was David Hermida as he went 2-for-3 in game two. Adam Kampsen got the win for the Wolves as he came in for relief of Matt Giessler. Kampsen went 4 innings giving up 5 hits, 0 earned runs, and struck out 1. Andy Bauer got the loss for the Saints as he went 4 2/3 innings giving up 8 hits, 6 earned runs, while striking out 3.
