ST. PAUL, Minn. - Junior slugger Adam Kampsen was named NSIC Preseason Player of the Year in a release put out today by the NSIC office. The Wolves were tagged to finish 9th in the league in 2007.
Kampsen finished the 2006 season with a .416 batting average, the highest in the NSIC and 45th highest in the nation. Kampsen amassed 64 hits in 154 at bats, including 12 home runs, 13 doubles, a triple, 41 RBI, and 35 runs scored. His 115 total bases also led the NSIC, while his .747 slugging percentage was second in the league. Kampsen was also a perfect 9-for-9 in stolen bases last season.
Northern state was picked to finish eighth in the conference in 2007. Wayne State, the 2006 regular season and tournament champions, was tagged to be the top finisher once again. The Wolves went 11-36 overall last season, taking sixth place in the league with a 2-15 NSIC record. They will open their season in Joplin, Missouri with a tournament March 4-10.
