Northern State Head Men's Basketball Coach Curt FredricksonHead Coach Curt Fredrickson
5th season
Record: 61-121, 23-64 NSIC in first four seasons

Curt Fredrickson, who was an all-American baseball player for the Wolves during his career from 1970-74, took over as NSU head baseball coach in 2003. Fredrickson is also the head women's basketball coach at Northern.

As an amateur baseball player, he's had an unmatched 30-year career. Fredrickson is also the only player in the history of South Dakota amateur baseball to amass more than 200 home runs and 200 career pitching victores. He ranks second in career home runs and third in all-time pitching victories.

"We've always had good baseball in this area, and my first goal will be to get some of those area kids to stay here and play," Fredrickson said. "When I played, Bart Berndt did a nice job as the head coach of putting a good product on the field and making it a good experience for his kids. I've always felt like I've owed it to the school to try and keep the program a good situation for student-athletes to come here and play baseball."

Fredrickson says the level of competition in baseball has changed a lot since Northern's move to NCAA II in 1995-96.

"We're in an extremely competitive league," Fredrickson said. "The top schools in our conference have a lot more to work with as far as scholarship money so it's an uphill battle. Coach Prosser did a nice job of bringing the program along the last few years and keeping it alive. He's got a good core group of young players here and we just need to add some pieces to the puzzle. Pitching is always the name of the game and we'll need some help there. With the coaching transition taking place now you get a late start on recruiting so that's what we're trying to catch up with now."
