Speidel, Bouwens Win Events

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State swim team received top place finishes from Renee Speidel and Kristen Bouwens in a November 9 meet against Concordia, Moorhead. Speidel took first place in the 200-yard IM and 100-yard Backstroke while Bouwens took first in the 100 Breaststroke. Full Story

Swimming Era Begins

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State women's swimming program had their inaugural swim meet, hosting MSU Moorhead on Friday, October 26 at the Aberdeen Family YMCA. The Wolves had three athletes take second place in their events as the Dragons won the meet 166-52. Full Story

NSU Swimming Set For Debut Tonight

ABERDEEN, S.D. - The Northern State women's swimming program will make their first-ever debut in a meet against MSU Moorhead tonight. The meet starts at 6:00 p.m. at the Aberdeen Family YMCA.

First Swimming Recruits Sign On With NSU

ABERDEEN, S.D. - New Northern State swimming coach Elyce Kastigar is happy to announce that three recruits have signed on to the charter NSU swimming roster for 2007-08. Rebecca Morse, Renee Speidel, and Kristen Bouwens will be three of the first swimmers to compete for the Wolves in the new program next season. Full Release

Northern State Hires Elyce Kastigar as
Head Women's Swimming Coach

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Northern State Athletic Director Bob Olson has announced the hiring of Elyce Kastigar as the new women’s swimming coach. Northern State recently announced the addition of two new sports; women’s swimming and women’s tennis, both slated to start competition in the 2007-08 academic year.

Kastigar has been the Aberdeen Swim Club Head Coach since 1997. Prior moving to Aberdeen she worked for the city of Eden Prairie (Minn.) as a Therapeutic Recreation Supervisor, an Aquatics Supervisor, and a Community Center Manager.

“We are very excited to have Coach Kastigar join our staff here at Northern State. She will bring a great deal of knowledge and experience to our newly added swimming program,” said Olson.

Kastigar received her Bachelor of Science degree in Recreation, Parks and Leisure Studies from the University of Minnesota in 1988. She is a member of the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA), United State Swimming (coach member) and the United States Masters Swimming. She holds ASCA Level I (Foundations of Coaching) and ASCA Level II (Stroke School) certification and a certificate of Facility Management.
Elyce and her husband Joe live in Aberdeen with their three children; Adam (12), Hannah (10), and Haley (5).
