WOLVES
SPLIT WITH CROOKSTON AT HOME
April
14, 2002

Senior
pitcher Andrew Lyke lets fly during his Game One win Sunday. |
Northern
State broke out the bats in an 11-7 win over Minnesota-Crookston
Sunday, but couldn't keep the offensive firepower going in
a 3-5 loss in the league doubleheader nightcap at Fossum Field.
The Wolves
(8-23, 1-13 NSIC) led the whole game and held off late rallies
by the Golden Eagles (5-15, 5-5 NSIC) to secure the win. Senior
pitcher Andrew Lyke (Lakeville, Minn.) struck out four and
scattered 10 hits in the complete game win.
In the
second game, Northern's defense again was a sore spot, committing
four errors. The Wolves tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom
of the fifth inning, but were unable to answer UMC's two-run
sixth. Senior pitcher Ryan Albrecht (Aberdeen) picked up the
loss on the mound.
Junior
catcher Steve Rixen (Mott, N.D.) led the Wolves at the plate,
going 4-for-6 on the day with six RBI and one run scored.
Northern
added a doubleheader with Trinity Bible College to the schedule.
The games will start at 3 p.m. Monday at Fossum Field.
