Wolves Fall To NSIC’s
Top Team – Southwest Minnesota State

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Wolves lost to the NSIC’s top team in game one as the
Mustangs rebounded from a 5-1 deficit to win game one 11-9. The Wolves fell again in game two
by a score of 10-5 as they drop to 8-16 overall and 3-7 in the NSIC.
Deacon Burns started the game off with a
blast as he went deep to center field to give the Wolves a one run lead a batter
into the game. The Wolves then
padded their lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second and third
inning making it a 5-1 game.
The Mustangs showed why they are on top of
the conference in the bottom of the third inning when they used six hits to
score seven runs and take an 8-5 lead. The Stangs added three more runs before the Wolves
started to rally. The Wolves
scored a run in each the fifth and sixth inning and another two in the top
of the seventh, but could not get the final two runs they needed as a
double play ended the game.
Joe Dinger started the game for the Wolves
and went three innings giving up seven runs on seven hits to the 22 batters
he faced. Rhett Gunderson came
in and pitched the final three innings, giving up three runs on five hits
to the 16 batters he faced.

The Wolves held the Stangs off the board in
the first inning, but let up at least one run in the final five
innings. The Wolves found
themselves down by six entering the fifth inning. The Wolves were able to score their five runs in the
final three innings, including three in the seventh, but the Mustangs
countered with four runs of their own to take the game 10-5.
Matt Paulson went five innings giving up eight
runs on 12 hits. He struck out
three and did not walk any of the 29 batters he faced. Rhett Gunderson threw the final
inning giving up a pair of runs.
The Wolves are now 8-16 overall and 3-7 in
the NSIC. Southwest Minnesota State is 21-8 and 9-1 in the NSIC.
The same two teams meet again tomorrow
afternoon in Marshall, MN at
12:00 p.m. for another doubleheader.
